SAT Essay
As part of its Writing assessment,
the SAT has
added a short Essay.
This section asks students to produce a
single essay in twenty five minutes,
developing their position
in response to a writing prompt. Students' positions
should be supported by their own reasoning, observations, and experiences.
The purpose of the SAT Essay is to test your understanding of the
conventions of standard written English and your ability to produce a clear
and effective sample of writing.
SAT Essay Scores
Each essay is scored by two different trained professionals (typically high
school or college teachers and professors). Scores range from 1 to 6 (6 being
the highest score). If you fail to write an essay, or your essay is off the
topic, you will receive a score of 0. The scores given by the graders are combined, resulting in a Raw Essay
score of 2 to 12 points.
