ACT Writing Test
As of February 2005, ACT has
added an optional Writing Test.
The optional Writing Test asks students to produce a
single essay in thirty minutes, explaining their position
in response to a writing prompt.
The writing prompt introduces two viewpoints on a single issue that is
relevant to high school students.
The purpose of the ACT Writing Test is to test your understanding of the
conventions of standard written English and your ability to produce a clear
and effective sample of writing.
Who Should Take the ACT Writing Test
The Writing Test is required by some colleges and recommended by others.
Find out here if the college to which
you are applying requires the Writing Test.
ACT Writing Test Scores
Students who take the optional Writing Test will have two additional scores on
their report. One Writing score (ranging from 2 to 12), and one combined
English/Writing score (ranging from 1 to 36).
